Advisory Board

The Association also works as an advisory board, which is primarily a technical consultancy. The Association is developing recommendations for the aerial survey opportunities of geographic areas subject to different legislation. The Association providesadvanced studies for the members according to the needs and the possibilities, as well as it ensures the preconditions of complementary training courses related to the purposes.

Recommendation for controlling the accuracy of aerial remotely sensed maps

One objective of our association is to formulate a recommendation to control the quality of the spatial data collected with the various tools and processing methods. This recommendation should be up to date, i.e. in compliance with the tools currently in commercial circulation and use, it should be applicable in most cases and last but not least it should also be uniform and - as much as possible - simple to use for the geometrical control of maps and 3D spatial models. We are looking for values to examine, based on which both the person collecting and processing the data and the customer can decide whether the end result meets their expectations. We wish to recommend minimum communicable data for communicating geometric accuracy, that would render results published in articles, documentations and studies comparable and which could easily be interpreted by outsiders to our profession as well.

The following is an introduction of our vision yet in the making, as at present, hoping that it would be a starting point for initiating professional information exchange and reconciliation on a broader scale. A pivotal point of our current standpoint is the FGDC-STD-007.3-1998 Geospatial Positioning Accuracy Standards of the Federal Geographic Data Committee, as this an easily applicable standard allowing uniform description of the reliability of spatial data. Its basic principle is calculating the expected accuracy of the spatial data examined based on controlling measurements determined in a more accurate manner. Therefore, the end result that cumulatively contains all errors of the various work processes may be evaluated this way without getting lost in researching the various errors, such as those pertaining to imaging, sensors, measuring instruments and processing.
